Description Item Specs

The Orchid has always had a very strong relation to the Samurai. At one time, anyone who was not of the Bushi class was forbidden under penalty of death to own or cultivate orchids. However, the orchid was even more than this to the Samurai.

The Orchid was a symbol of the Samurai bravery, training, and fortitude, many Samurai would go to incredible lengths and extreme peril to find wild orchids and bring them back to public acclaim.
Features
  • Blade: The blade has been handmade with high carbon steel, hammered out so that the carbon is evenly distributed throughout the blade for a consistent hardness. A Bo-Hi has been added to the top of the blade to decrease the weight of the blade and give audible feedback when swung. The blade also features a kissake, hamon, and comes with a thin edge already sharpened. This sword comes full tang.
  • Saya: The Saya has been constructed from hard wood with a black dull gloss finish. The Sage-o is black cord, wrapped over a bright copper Kurigata. The Koi-guchi is a steel fitting with a golden orchid.
  • Tsuba: The Habaki is a one piece brass construction. The Tsuba is a polished steel disc with a golden orchid on each side. Two Seppas secure the Tsuba to the blade of the sword.
  • Tsuka: The Fuchi is the same design as the Koi-guchi. The Tsuka core is wooden with an imitation ray skin Same and black cord Ito. Two bamboo Mekugi secure the tang of the blade into the Tsuka. Two golden Menuki decorate each side of the Tsuka. The Kashira is another golden orchid.

Golden Orchid Katana March 4, 2010
Reviewer: Charles Hilbert from Canaan, NH United States
I ordered this on 2/15; tracked it with the number provided; and got it on the 19th.  It was pretty sharp when I got it, and it's a little sharper now, since I ran a sharpener over it.  It's a weapon.
I'm totally satisfied and will order more stuff from SnA.
Follow-up: On 3/2 the kashira fell off; it had been glued on, and the ends of the ito unwound.  But I tied them back on and threw some super glue on the ends.  The next day I cut the shipping box to pieces.  Still worth it for the price.
Ps. It's a really nice looking sword. I'm glad my wife picked it out, 'cause I would have picked a plainer one.
