Description Item Specs   The Statue of Liberty was commissioned and built by the French people as recognition of the friendship between the French and Americans during the Revolution. The agreement was that the French would build the statue and the Americans would build the pedestal. The project was aimed to be completed in 1876 as a Centennial but the project was not completed until in 1886. Lady Liberty has only been standing 120 years, a small amount of time compared to the Parthenon or the Pyramids, and yet it is still the eternal symbol of freedom and liberty.
