This is the 1045 Steel Through Hardened Dragon Engraved Natural Wood Shirasaya Katana. The shirasaya style of Japanese sword mount was primarily meant for storing blades when they were not in use. The shirasaya with its natural wood finish allowed for the wood to breathe better and contract/expand with weather changes while keeping the precious sword inside as clean as possible. This is a through hardened katana with wire-brushed hamon and beautiful double dragon carving along the side of the saya. The tsuka matches the saya finish and features a single bamboo mekugi pin. The habaki is made of solid brass. The fuchi and koiguchi are also lined with black polymer for added strength against cracking. Please note that we do not recommend using shirasaya style swords to cut any objects as they are not meant for use.
