The rapier was originally used to refer to any civilian sword. However, as gunpowder began to take over the battle field the sword became a secondary weapon and was worn by civilians for style. It was during this time in the early Renaissance that the duel and the rapier rose in popularity. As the swords became more and more ornate the long thin sword was referred to as the rapier. Typically this sword had no edge, being used only for thrusting attacks. This was the high period of duels for honor and fighting with two weapons.

This is a replica of an early 15th century main gauche. The dagger-like weapon was used in the left hand with the rapier. It was meant to parry the opponents' thrusts and was often used offensively.

Features

Blade: The blade of the dagger is 440 Stainless Steel with a double edged design. A short ricasso is at the base of the blade with a solid steel finger stud.
Scabbard: The scabbard is wooden with a black leather cover. The end cap is polished steel ball and point drag. The scabbard throat is also polished steel with two steel chains and clips to attach it to a belt. The scabbard throat fits seamlessly onto the dagger.
Guard: The guard has two severely curved quillons and a finger ring.
Handle: The handle is steel with a wire wrap. The pommel of the dagger is solid steel with a ball at the end.
